Meet jt

Hailing from the eastside of Detroit, Michigan, JT is a passionate advocate for community empowerment and cultural vibrancy. Their journey into service began with two transformative years in AmeriCorps NCCC, where they experienced the power of collective action firsthand. In their first year, JT served as a dedicated Corps Member on another team, immersing themselves in diverse communities and projects.
The following year, they stepped into a leadership role, leading their own team with determination and compassion, laying the foundation for their future endeavors in community service.

As Sabin CDC’s Cultural Livability Specialist, JT brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to celebrating diversity and fostering inclusivity. In this multifaceted role, they are responsible for planning culturally specific events that celebrate the rich tapestry of traditions within the communities served by Sabin CDC. From organizing festivals and cultural showcases to coordinating community outreach initiatives, JT works tirelessly to ensure that all members of the community feel seen, heard, and valued. Additionally, JT serves as the primary liaison between Sabin CDC and the wider community, keeping residents informed about the organization’s programs, services, and opportunities for involvement.

Beyond their professional responsibilities, JT is a tireless advocate for social justice and equity, leveraging their platform to amplify marginalized voices and champion initiatives that promote cultural understanding and unity. With a deep-seated belief in the power of community collaboration, JT remains steadfast in their mission to create vibrant, inclusive spaces where everyone can thrive and contribute to the tapestry of community life.

About Community

Sabin’s Livability Initiative is an ongoing and organization-wide project to intentionally improve the livability of the culturally diverse neighborhoods that we serve in North East Portland. Livability is the sum of factors that add up to a community’s quality of life. Livability is the presence of color, art, and diversity, but it’s also unusable sidewalks, skyrocketing rent prices, and lack of green space.
