What is ECO-Livability?

A Vision for Sustainable, Inclusive, and Healthy Communities

At  Sabin CDC, we believe that building strong, thriving communities goes beyond affordable housing; it’s about creating an environment that nurtures health, well-being, and social inclusion for all residents. Our Eco-Livability initiative is our holistic approach to improving the livability and sustainability of Northeast Portland through intentional, nature-based, and community-centered programs. By bringing together green workforce development, safe and welcoming outdoor spaces, and collaborative partnerships, Eco-Livability works to address the challenges our residents face, from access to safe green spaces to affordable and healthy homes.

Nature-Based Programs for Healthier Living

Research shows that access to nature and green spaces improves physical and mental health, reduces stress, and fosters a sense of community. Yet, for many of our residents, these spaces are scarce or inaccessible. Eco-Livability brings green spaces to Northeast Portland neighborhoods, making them safe, inviting, and within reach. Our nature-based programs aim to transform not only the properties we maintain but the broader community, creating healthier living environments that all residents can enjoy.

A Community-Centered Future

Our mission extends beyond creating affordable housing; Eco-Livability aspires to build homes that are both affordable and healthy, with no need for trade-offs. We believe that every resident deserves access to safe, comfortable, and eco-friendly housing. With a focus on community gardens, green building practices, art, and resident empowerment, our developments encourage social interaction, pride of place, and environmental responsibility.

Through Eco-Livability, Sabin CDC is working to redefine affordable housing as spaces where residents thrive—where health, environmental sustainability, and social equity are prioritized. Our projects are designed not only to provide housing but to foster improved mental and physical health, reduce healthcare costs, and increase economic opportunities for our residents.

Sabin CDC is proud to lead this effort, creating a model of Eco-Livability that enhances the lives of our residents while preserving the unique character of our neighborhoods. Through sustainable, inclusive, and thoughtful design, we are shaping the future of community living in Portland, one project at a time.
