Center for Reengagement

Welcome to the Center for ReEngagement, a versatile event space nestled within the Isaka Shamsud-Din Apartment complex, paying homage to the renowned artist of the same name hailing from NE Portland. Sponsored by Justice Oregon for Black Lives from Meyer Memorial Trust.

Discover the heart of community at the Center for ReEngagement, where connections are forged and relationships flourish. Our purpose is to cultivate a space within the community for its members to reconnect and thrive. Through a diverse range of events, we aim to offer vital services to both the constituents of Sabin CDC and the broader NE population. Collaborating with esteemed partners such as Sistas Empowerment Corps and Nikki Brown Clown, we proudly host culturally specific events that enrich and celebrate our shared heritage and diversity. Join us as we build a stronger, more vibrant community together.

“Step into a sanctuary of inclusivity and empowerment, where every voice finds resonance and every soul is celebrated. The Center for ReEngagement stands as a beacon of hope and support for marginalized communities across the spectrum, from LGBTQIA+ individuals to African American, Native American, Pacific Islander, Asian American, LatinX, and beyond.

Here, beneath our welcoming roof, we weave together the vibrant tapestry of our diverse identities, embracing the richness of our differences and the strength of our unity.

Through a myriad of meticulously curated events, workshops, and gatherings, we extend a warm embrace to those who have often felt marginalized or overlooked.

Our commitment runs deep, echoing the pulse of every heartbeat longing for connection and empowerment. Whether it’s a support group for LGBTQIA+ youth, a cultural celebration honoring the heritage of our indigenous communities, or a workshop series amplifying the voices of Asian American and Pacific Islander activists, we stand ready to serve as a catalyst for change and a sanctuary for growth.

Join us on this transformative journey as we cultivate a community where every individual is seen, heard, and valued. Together, we rise.

About Community

Sabin’s Livability Initiative is an ongoing and organization-wide project to intentionally improve the livability of the culturally diverse neighborhoods that we serve in North East Portland. Livability is the sum of factors that add up to a community’s quality of life. Livability is the presence of color, art, and diversity, but it’s also unusable sidewalks, skyrocketing rent prices, and lack of green space.
